Al D'Amato

Senator Al D'Amato, a native New Yorker, has prioritized public service in his career. He attended Syracuse University, earning a degree from the school of business administration in 1959 before earning his JD from Syracuse Law in 1961. Prior to serving New York as a senator, Alphonse D'Amato served the public in several capacities. These include serving as public administrator to Nassau County, tax assessor in Hempstead, New York, town supervisor in Hempstead, presiding supervisor in Hempstead, and vice chairman of Nassau County Board of Supervisors.

When he gained a seat in the senate as a Republican, he served three six-year terms, from January 1981 to January 1999. In the 104th and 105th Congresses, he served as chairman for the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, and on the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

Since leaving public office, Senator Al D' Amato has remained active in New York in several different roles. He has served as a director of New York-based Computer Associates International, Inc. since 1999. He also works as managing director of Park Strategies LLC, a business consulting firm, a role he has held since January 1999.
